“A 3-day practical training programme under the "Swanirbharshil Nari – Atmanirbhar Assam" initiative trained rural women in handcrafting household products from water hyacinth and waste materials.”
From 17th to 19th February 2026, Nabaprayas Yuva Sangha organized a three-day skill development training programme under the banner "Swanirbharshil Nari – Atmanirbhar Assam".
Held at the Srimanta Sankardeva Sangha, Purajanghal Branch Office, the workshop focused on handcrafting durable household utility items and decorative products from riverine water hyacinth and recycled eco-materials.
By converting an invasive aquatic weed that clogs village waterways into valuable handicrafts, the initiative provides both ecological relief and practical self-employment opportunities for local rural women.
Participants learned harvesting, stem drying, fiber braiding, and weaving techniques, opening avenues for sustainable supplementary household income and community self-reliance.
